Silence
Background
The song ‘Silence’ weaves together an intricate tapestry of exotic and traditional sounds. The music showcases an eclectic array of instruments, featuring the hypnotic melodies of the snake charmer pipe, richly textured Middle Eastern percussion, and the distinctive resonance of the Sarod – a stringed instrument central to Indian classical music. These diverse elements are masterfully complemented by Jeff Burrows’ powerful and ferocious drumming style, creating a unique fusion of Eastern and Western musical traditions. The result is a mesmerizing sonic landscape that pays homage to Dead Can Dance’s world music influences while forging its own distinctive path.
‘Silence’ makes mention of Ophelia, a tragic character in Shakespeare´s Hamlet (she´s the one told to “get thee to a nunnery”) who eventually loses her mind and commits suicide by drowning. She has come to symbolize erotic tragedy in our modern culture.

It’s a song about a man who holds his muse or ideal in a state of divinity. Further, it follows the character as he endures the extremes of his rites of passage.

lyrics
With her beauty and with her eyes
Heaven help me
I feel I’m fading
I should rest here
For a while
As my senses seize the night
Heaven help me
I’m forsaken
I should rest here
For a while
Dry are the lips that lost their taste of love
Drown in the waters that would give you life
Cry as this lamentation thrusts its knife
In silence
Silence
